I grew up in the inner city of Kansas City and Soul Train was NEVER missed by me and my friends!
They started this skinny white boy from KC on a life long journey of dancing many nites away….It has helped me keep my sanity for the last 30 yrs!
Many thanks to all who participated in Soul Train and more importantly the man…Don Cornelius….I wish you Love, Peace & Soul on your journey brother!

No one cany deny where they were every Saturday morning at 11:00 waiting for Soul Train to come on TV. Sometimes we had to complete our household chores during the show even dancing with the vacuum cleaner as we worked. However, when the Soul Train line came on everything came to a stop so we could learn the latest dance moves. Without a doubt these were some of the happiest times of my childhood growing up in the 70′s. There will never be another Soul Train. Thank You Don Cornelius for being such an inspiration, innovator and pioneer that provided the sound of music and funky fashion to a changing time. No one can deny your contributions and your memory will live on. In your prophetic words, “May you find love, peace and soul as you make your transition home. Peace and Blessings Always.

Love my Best of Soul Train box set but it’s extremely disappointing that the team putting this box set together did not take into consideration that Soul Train fans not only lived for the classic performances but the SOUL TRAIN LINE! I so looked forward to the Soul Train line in every show so I could see some of the crazy dance moves. The box set also has WAY TOO MANY Afro-Sheen and Ultra Sheen commericals. I mean c’mon…there’s a commercial behind almost every performance, which leads me to believe that they were put there as “fillers”. There are SO MANY classic performances that are not included, including the Whispers, which I was shocked about considering they did one the show’s theme songs. Finally, I was very disappointed that some of the shows were chopped. As an example, on the show that dedicated the full hour to James Brown, Lyn Collins’ performance was edited out and I also would’ve loved to see more episodes from the 80′s. I just hope that a VOLUME II is in the works and that these comments are taken into consideration.

I saw Soul Train when it first aired, what such memories. I had to purchase the DVD Set from Time Life. This set covers years 1971-1979, and it also shows the commericals about Afro Sheet, Ultra Sheen. Seeing the Fashions and the Dancers and the dance moves, I use to do some of those dances. Thank You Don for the memories.

The Soul Train show that started in Chicago was a local program. It had not gone nationwide yet. So I doubt that any episodes were saved. Unless Don Cornelius has some master tapes from the Chicago local show, we’ll never see any of the shows.

We recently got BOUNCE network here in Kansas.
The 1980′s are on Soul Train now and what great memories!!
I always wished I could have been a Soul Train dancer.
Great website and great reading the dancers stories.
The era from the 60s to the 80s produced the BEST music!!!!

This is to the comment from “Ian”, about “Denay & Vaughn”. Actually it was “Danae’ & Von”, from Chicago. Danae’ (that’s me!) “still dancing my heart out”. I prefer steppin’ now, it’s my favorite past-time. You can catch me on the now running show (if you live in Chi-Town) of “CAN I STEP WITH YOU”, that airs every Sunday night @ 8:30 & Every Monday afternoon @ 3:30, on Channel 19. Von, has relocated to Philadelphia, but still visit his home town @ least 4-5 times a years. Alot of people did not know that we are actually first cousins & best friends. We both always loved to dance & have a great opportunity to appear on the very 1st episode of Soul Train. We are both living our older years gracefully & are pleased that people can still remember & appreciate the true art of dancing. I always wished that we had been included on some of the anniversary specials.

One of the greatest moments for me on Soul Train was watching Stargard dance & sing their huge Norman Whitfield written & produced hit: “Which Way Is Up?”

All I can say is WOW! this show has been and forever will be a living legend in it’s own right. How can you not cherish and love the train. I grew up listening to and watching Soul Train I would come running inside the house to watch this on the weekends. I wouldn’t leave the room until it was all over. Since there is so much interest in bringing back the show, it seems like a no brainer for it to come back. I grow up on Soul Train and I would love for my 3 yr son to have the same fond memories that I have of the show.
