On February 13, 2013, as most of us were preparing to wow and woo on Valentine’s Day, the city of Washington, D.C. was celebrating the launch of the inaugural D.C. Lottery Soul Train Scratcher, which debuted on February 6th. Nationally syndicated radio personality Tom Joyner and Majic 102.3 WMMJ were on hand for the official “Soul Train Day” festivities at Union Station, which featured the always popular Soul Train Scramble Board contest and the requisite Soul Train line.
Soul Train Holdings, LLC CEO Kenard Gibbs said, “We are thrilled to partner with the D.C. Lottery on our first lottery venture. The scratcher is an excellent vehicle to marry the well-known, iconic Soul Train brand with the excitement of an instant lottery game. We really think this will resonate well with our fans as we further expand our franchise.”
The D.C. Scratcher can be purchased for $5 at various retailers throughout the greater D.C. area, with a top prize of $50,000 and additional prizes that include trips to the Soul Train Cruise and the Soul Train Awards.
“The D.C. Lottery is proud to be the first lottery in the country to bring the energy, impact, and history associated with the music of Soul Train to our players in the form of this exciting scratcher ticket,” said Buddy Roogow, executive director of the D.C. Lottery.
Coming in March, the D.C. Lottery’s Facebook page will amp up the new ticket’s interactivity by rolling out a digital Soul Train Scramble Board.
