The 4th annual ASCAP Women Behind the Music series stopped at Bardot Hollywood in Los Angeles last night (Oct 17.) to educate and recognize women for their achievements in the entertainment business. Host MC Lyte
kicked off the question and answer panel with soul singer Ledisi
, Lizzy Moore, Mamie Coleman and Caroline Yim. The panelist candidly addressed questions around mentorship, balancing work, benefits of a maledominated industry and the rewards of their career.
Before receiving a medal honoring their contributions in entertainment, each panelist shared the most rewarding aspect of their career. R&B singer/songwriter Ledisi’s mentorship started at home, her mother, a musician, taught her about the business. The “Pieces of Me” singer recalled learning how to copyright a song from the age of eight. In addition she addressed event-goers about not only completing her dream, but her parent’s dream as well.
