The summer is great, but those long hours pounding the pavement in sandals? Not so much. Your feet take such a beating that you should take a little time out to soothe your feet. This goes for men, too. There is nothing girly about taking care of your body.
You can soothe your feet with a few simple steps that can be done all of your own. Number one on this list? Get a pumice stone. Please eliminate the crust from the heel of your foot. Please. Weekly. You can do it in the shower once your skin is soft from the steam. If your skin is especially dry, rub the pumice stone on your heels before wetting your skin, and finish up in the shower to make sure the soles of your feet are much smoother.
Once your feet are smooth, you can soothe without any issues. Soaking your feet in a tub of warm water and Epson salt will not only soften your skin but also relieve any aches and pains that you may feel after being on your feet all day.
After you soak in Epson salt, dry off your feet and rub a thick cream (or even olive oil from the kitchen) on your feet concentrating on the arches and balls of your feet.
Put your feet up and relax for the remainder of the night.
A few helpful hints to cut down on soreness:
- Purchase inserts for your shoes to provide more comfort
- On especially hot days add a bit of baby powder or rub deodorant on your heels to help with sweating.
