In Memoriam: The Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch

We are saddened to learn of the passing of Beastie Boys member Adam Yauch, aka MCA, who died today at the age of 47.  As part of one of the most influential hip-hop groups of all time, the Brooklyn, NY native along with fellow Beasties Mike D and Ad-Rock brought us classics like “Brass Monkey”, “Paul Revere”, “Hey Ladies”, and the anthemic “Fight for Your Right to Party”.  Earlier this year, the Beastie Boys were inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame; Yauch was unable to attend the ceremony due to illness.

In 2009, Yauch, who in recent years had become a passionate advocate for Tibetan freedom, was diagnosed with cancer.  He leaves behind his wife Dechen Wengdu and daughter Losel.

Soul Train sends love and condolences to the family, friends, loved ones, and fans of this legendary emcee, and celebrates his life of artistry and activism.
