The Soul Train legacy lives on! While those in the New York City area were still buzzing from Soul Train night during Midsummer Night Swing at Lincoln Center, the “train” had gone a few stops south to Chocolate City for a private, invite-only affair sponsored by Target.
At the sexy and scenic Park on Fourteenth, sponsors, celebs and socialites gathered to celebrate the dedication of Soul Train memorabilia to the Smithsonian Museum of African American History. The fete included a scrumptious sit down dinner and a performance by DC native Raheem DeVaughn.
Though his own catalogue is no slouch, he paid homage to Soul Train’s roots with a spot-on rendition of Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On.” While the crowd seemed shy and demure at first, it didn’t take long for people to take the dance floor to get their groove on. It was a perfect way to wrap up Black Music Month.
