Soul TrainFor many, classic episodes of Soul Train offer a sense of nostalgia—a look back to political strides during the Civil Rights Movement, songs of black power and upliftment, as well as the dawning of some of the greatest talents in black music. Every Saturday, families gathered around the television to learn the next hottest thing in music, dance and fashion as it related to black culture. The famous faces, the advertised products, the messages of Soul Train were all equally in tune with the audience as the audience was in tune with series. It was pure black (soul) magic.

Now that sense of nostalgia can be on-call. Time Life proudly presents The Best of Soul Train, a 13-hour, 9-DVD set featuring one-of-a-kind, superstar performances from the best years of this iconic TV show–1971 to 1979. Each DVD features the best moments from original Soul Train episodes, including on-air interviews with artists, the world-famous Soul Train dancers. An added surprise is the inclusion of classic commercials from Soul Train sponsor Johnson Products, makers of Ultra Sheen and Afro Sheen. These were some of the first commercials produced exclusively for black audiences.

The Best of Soul Train also features performances from a who’s-who of classic soul artists, including Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, The O’Jays, Marvin Gaye, Gladys Night, The Isley Brothers, Barry White, The Commodores, James Brown, War, Sly and The Family Stone and a host of other musical icons. The DVD set includes more than three hours of bonus footage, including exclusive interviews with Don Cornelius, Jody Watley, Smokey Robinson and more.

Some must-see moments include:

* Barry White’s performance with a full orchestra
* Marvin Gaye and Don Cornelius playing one-on-one basketball with Smokey Robinson as referee
* Sly and the Family Stone performing “I Wanna Take You Higher” and “Dance to the Music”
* Stevie Wonder’s medley of “I Wish,” “My Cherie Amour” and “Sir Duke.”

These timeless memories are not to be missed.
