Asha the Intern: VH1 Documentary Screening
posted in Lifestyle, Videos at
I just have one thing to say: Wow! Last Friday I found myself in Beverly Hills at the Paley Center, sharing space with Don Cornelius. We were there for the screening of VH1 Rock Docs’ “Soul Train: The Hippest Trip In America.” It airs on Saturday, February 6, and let me tell you, it is amazing. You will love all of the history, music and background commentary from everyone from Snoop Dogg to Patti LaBelle.
I got a chance to talk to all of the extended Soul Train family. My favorite drummer, music aficionado Questlove was there. Actually, Questo knows more about Soul Train than I do, but I still put him to the test. I love him. I also met Jody Watley, who so beautiful she makes me think she’s got the secret to stop aging, Smokey Robinson (my dear friend from way back, we just love each other), and of course the Soul Train dancers. The whole crew was there. I hate that I forgot to ask them if I could be an honorary member of their crew. The evening was topped off by an appearance by the man who conducted the train for over 35 years, Mr. Don Cornelius. When he walked into the lobby it was like the sea had parted. His presence is amazing–he is definitely the real deal.
I was so nervous when I finally had the chance to speak to him. I even asked him if he thought I should be the host of the next Soul Train. And although he didn’t say yes, he couldn’t stop smiling–between you and me, I could tell he was in agreement.
This has truly been a great season for the Soul Train V-Log. I’ve been all over the country and interviewed so many of my favorite artists (and close friends!) If I had to choose a favorite interview, it has to be Lloyd, DJ Drama, Musiq, Trey Songz, Nicki Minaj, Monica and the Soul Train Awards red carpet. Who could choose, they’re all great!
It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it. – Asha the Intern
