Soul Train Awards 2009: Top 10 Reasons to Tune In

The 2009 Soul Train Awards airs November 29, on Centric and BET at 8 p.m. CST/9 p.m. EST.  Don’t forget to tune in—otherwise you may wake up on Monday morning and realize you’ve missed out on the Twitter commentary.  Here are a few other reasons why the show can’t be missed:

  1. 1. Trey and Toni:  The duo opens the show with a big bang. Yes, we are talking about that kiss. You heard about it and saw it on all of the blogs.  Now see it with your own eyes and you be the judge.

  2. 2. Bootsy Collins: When was the last time you’ve seen him perform?  This is the man, the legend behind some of your favorite jams. You  know you can always count on him to bring the funk. He did just that, as he and a few more of our all-time favorite soul stars paid tribute to Charlie Wilson.

  3. 3. Taraji P. Henson and Terrance Howard:  The pair made for perfect hosts. They were lively, fun, and truly made us feel like we were on the Soul Train set.  From their skits to their intros, they were on point.

  4. 4. Johnny Gill singing “My, My, My”:  Now, you know that was your song if you grew up in the 90′s.  I think we all imagined putting on our red dresses, high heels, and some of that sweet perfume with that special guy just saying, “my, my, my.”

  5. 5. Chrisette Michele and that voice:  Wow,  she blew our minds away with her canary-like skills.

  6. 6. Fantasia: This this girl knows how to put on a show.  She put her heart and soul into her performance.  And,  when you put her on-stage with Erykah Badu, Melle Mel and Angie Stone you have a whirlwind of a trubute.

  7. 7. Tommy Davidson: This guy is hilarious, and he is up to his normal shenanigans and antics.  He’s on quite a roll now, on the heels of Black Dynomite! We’ve missed him and we know you have, too.

  8. 8. Chaka Khan:  Need we say more.  No, really…do we?   This woman is amazing.  You have to check her performance.  Words can’t describe how made us feel.  We guarantee you will be dancing by the end of her performance.

  9. 9. Melanie Fiona and Hal Linton:  On what other award show are you going to see today’s emerging Motown stars bringing down the house in a Motown tribute?

  10. 10. The Soul Train Awards is back, yes “the black Grammys” before the Grammys became black. is back.
